I look around my house and it’s a mess.
Papers, breakfast bowls still out, milk cartons from last nights supper all cluttering up the coffee table.
Clothes spread out all over the floor in the children’s rooms as they couldn’t be bothered to put their clothes away into their cupboards.
It’s discouraging. But encouraging.
Encouraging because, it reminds me I’m not perfect. Encouraging because it reminds me that it’s a mess because I was out yesterday catching up with friends. Encouraging, because you now know that you’re not the only one.
That for me is a biggie. Comparing myself to others. I look at the ‘supermoms’ at the school gate and feel like I’m a failure. I cannot seem to keep my house tidy. I have children who misbehave, talk back, interrupt and whinge and moan about going out for treats.
So today, I’m on a mission. To tidy the house, but if I don’t manage that’s fine. I’ve done my best. I’m not a supermom- I’m me. I have three feisty, spirited children who need encouragement to grow and lead the world, not become dictators, to be fed and kept healthy, to get sufficient sleep, to be taught lifeskills- such as keeping their rooms tidy (OK I can live in hope!), or learning to swim and ensuring that they have a good education, so as to become well rounded adults. This I need to do despite the challenges and hardships that come my way. It doesn’t matter how I’m doing it, because I’m doing my best and if I’m pretty honest- my children are turning out OK.
So let’s stop comparing ourselves to the ‘supermoms’ and rather encourage each other, support each other. After all, we don’t know what others are going through until we’ve walked through their shoes!
Amen! I think you just described my life.
I’m glad to hear it’s not just me. Thank you for visiting.
