Our move to Japan has resulted in J’s love of farm vehicles being lost to a love of trains. No surprise there..
What is surprising however is that it has taken us a year to find a ‘Really Cool’ trainspotting location.
We have found a few spots where we can watch some trains go passed and some Shinkansens, but this one is a clear winner…
It is right by Nippori station in Tokyo which is on the Yamanote Line. From the north exit, leave the building and you come out right by Shimogoindenhashi Bridge.
The bridge goes straight across the tracks and from here there is a wonderous selection of trains and Shinkansens, including the Airport Skyline available to spot. I recall spotting at least 6 different trains and possibly 5 different Shinkansens.
And if you are in doubt as to which train is which (and can read Japanese), there is a bulletin board with the trains that could be spotted.
The bridge is partly boarded up with perspex for little people to watch, but not over the Shinkansen track. That just has metal railings. We were clearly not the only people here to trainspot. But then again it’s Tokyo- why am I surprised?!?
